The trees showed joy
Once we were a pulsing city, and even at the darkest hour of autumn we could see the trees show joy.
The ecologist Daniel T. C. Cox and colleagues tested five features of a neighbourhood's nature against depression, anxiety and stress among the residents. Two came through: how much vegetation stands there, and how many birds are about in the afternoon, when the residents are about too. Both worked as thresholds. Depression was lower above roughly 20% vegetation cover, anxiety above 30%.
